Dr.Rajkumar R. Khapekar,
Head Department of Botany, D.R.B. Sindhu Mahavidyalaya, Nagpur has been conferred
with very first Mayor Innovation Award in a glittering ceremony held at Suresh
Bhatta Sabhagruh on March 03, 2019. Dr. Khapekar received this Award at the
hands of Hon’ble Shri. Nitinji Gadkari, union Minister Govt. of India and Mayor
of Nagpur City Mrs. Nandatai Jichkar. During this ceremony other eminent
personalities like Deputy Mayor Shri. Deepraj Pardikar, Dr. Vikas Mahatme, Dr.
Milind Mane and many others from Nagpur Municipal Corporation (N.M.C.) were prominently
concept behind this award was, Nagpur is fastest growing Global City and
developing as a Smart city. But according to Mayor, smart cities can only be
developed through people’s participation. And in order to raise people’s
participation in sustainable development this award was initiated by the Hon.
Mayor, Mrs. Nandatai Jichkar
Ideas and innovations were invited from the people.
The main objective of this award is to celebrate innovations in Nagpur city by
felicitating city’s innovative minds and also to find solutions on various
Rajkumar Khapekar has been awarded for his Ecofriendly idea of “Artificial
Floating Island” (AFI) for minimization of eutrophicated lake pollution.
It is notable that Dr.
Khapekar is a recipient of many awards and fellowships like Young Scientist Award,
National Environment Friend Award, Vidnyan Seva Ratna Puraskar and many more. His
name is also featured in Marvellous Record Book of India. He has delivered many
talks in National & International conferences and authored many research
papers and books.
